Hello, and welcome to Girdwood Summer.  This blog follows the travels of Scott Wotring and Jessica Swanson on their drive from North Carolina to Alaska in Spring 2011 and their summer spent working and playing in Girdwood, Alaska.

After six years in marketing at a newspaper in North Carolina, the siren song of Alaska became too strong to resist, sparking Scott’s resignation and putting into motion a long-lusted plan for he and Jessica to leave their hometown of Raleigh and pursue a life-list adventure to include an epic transcontinental road trip and a summer spent hiking, biking, climbing and exploring the massive and mystical lands of the last frontier.

Both Scott and Jess will contribute to the blog, posting stories, photos, videos and commentary along the way.  We invite you to follow the adventure and be part of our Girdwood Summer.

    Hey Scott and Jess,
Do you have a mailing address there?? If so, will you email it to me… you know I like the old school form of communication. 🙂

  4. Scott, I was looking up some old friends from high school and found this site. This trip looks amazing! I talk about doing something like this a lot, but end up just getting my adventures one week or weekend at a time. Glad to see people just going out and doing it.
Thanks for the photos and stories, and enjoy your summer!

Jessica, I was wondering if you could tell me the location of the photograph you are using as your background for the blog. Is it in Seward?
