I took this photo at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, which automatically erases any legitimacy it may have earned in the realm of badass wildlife photography, but man alive, what an animal.

That is an awesome photo Conservation Center or not! Pic’s like that are best taken with a telephoto lens or from inside an Abrams Tank. Don’t tell me you were cooking on the Subi’s manifold…..

    • I wish I could say I took this pic while standing along the Seward Highway cooking up bananas foster on the engine, but alas, it was taken from the safe side of an electric fence at the AWCC’s 17-acre bear enclosure. I poked my camera through a hole and presto.

In other bear-related news, Girdwood is having what’s said to be their most active bear year in a while. Jess and I have seen a black sow and cubs wandering around the town quite a bit. In fact, while Jess’s parents were in town recently, we walked into a restaurant while a 200lb “problem” blackie was sniffing around the dumpster about 25′ away.

No wild brown sightings yet, not sure if that’s good or bad.
